Taming the Unconscious

Understanding where some of our baser tendencies, morals, and situational behaviors stem from often alert us to the intricacies of our personalities. We can start to tease out what it is that we truly align with within our personalities and subsequently, that which we do not. This process, in my experience, starts somewhat inconspicuously, slowly teasing out the basest tendencies and motives that were ingrained in us since birth. By beginning to understand what the motives behind our unconscious actions are, we are able to see ourselves under a brighter light. We can begin to challenge the realities and limiting beliefs that we hold within our lives, and rid those from our beings that are not impactful and supportive to our growth. We must be acutely aware of our behaviors, most notably the unconscious. The unchecked unconscious behavior is perhaps the most difficult to tease and edit out, however it is also perhaps the most satisfying to eliminate.

As we begin the process of taming the unconscious from witihin our lives, we begin upon a journey of true self awareness. This is ultimately the type of awareness that can carry us through the most challenging of situations throughout our lives. By knowing ourselves, and subsequently our propensity towards certain activities, both internal and external, we can begin to mold ourselves into what we feel is the most authentic version of our individuality. Perhaps one of the most dangerous aspects of this process can be unpacking the covert nature of how our beliefs impact our lives. By placing judgement and value upon nearly everything within our lives, our subconscious begins to show us the difference between what believe about something, and the way that we actually feel. Once we can tease away our baser instincts, and truly examine ourselves we can reveal the long buried subconscious beliefs and begin to uproot those that do not belong within our current value system.

The subconscious is a wild stallion, a tricky son of a bitch, and certainly not easy to tame. Maintaining acute awareness of one's being is tantamount to having the reins and the understanding to tame the wild and unconscious behaviors within your own life. We must open the lines of communication with ourselves, opening ourselves up to change and the ability to think critically about our identities. As we establish our own authentic identity, we begin to have the opportunity to grow our awareness of self while simultaneously impacting those around us. The butterfly effect from your internal action will inevitably affect your external world, and we should not be surprised when change manifests in our external lives when making change internally.

This process may seem grueling and arduous at first, but as we begin to unpack further and further within our subconscious beliefs, digging slowly becomes easier and more satisfying. As we become more aligned with our authentic identities we can begin to find true happiness within our lives, believing and acting in such a way that is authentic to our truest self, rather than any predisposed notions that we may have accumulated throughout our lives or through generational trauma. Decisions and opinions that had previously been rooted within our subconscious, begin to become part of our surface level awareness, and often we can unpack them within the moment, quickly adapting to a new higher functioning system of conscious behavior. The process becomes more enjoyable, and enables us to make these conscious decisions more succinctly and confidently within our everday lives. The process becomes just as satisfying as the otucomes themsleves.
