Unearthing Motive

At some point within our awareness of self, we inevitably start to question why it is that we perform the actions within our lives that define us. When it comes to both conscious and unconscious behavior, we must necessarily begin to ask ourselves “Why” . We must break down our true motives and intentions, excavate the ideas, thoughts, and beliefs that live rent free in our minds and our hearts and examine them as if we were scientists exploring our own vicissitudes as well as our victories. We must be able to embrace the potential difficulties that lie ahead on this path, as well as those that have come to lead up to this point. By unpacking these experiences, we can begin to make changes within our lifestyles to embrace the person that we want to become. We must remain fastidious in our resolve that we are making these decisions in support of our own growth, as we aim to become the best possible versions of ourselves. It is important to understand that there will be difficulties within our lives, no matter the path we choose within our lives. However, as long as those difficulties are authentic to the path that we desire, the benefits of chasing your most authentic self are perhaps the most gratifying, and subsequently are those that we become most grateful for.

As we begin to gain true authenticity within our lives, we allow the benefits of developing self awareness and newfound impactful behavior to permeate into all aspects of our lives, creating a holistic and long lasting change. A concept I often refer to within my own life is “Setting my Future Self up for Success.” Each day I try to perform small kindnesses for my future self, setting myself up to be a more positive and impactful person in the near and long term. I intentionally craft my life in the present so that I will be a better version of myself in the future. These can range from simple kindness like drinking plenty of water, and getting enough exercise to more complex acts like examining past traumas and practicing mindfulness within my daily activities. As I assume these practices, I become more and more grateful each subsequent day for the acts that I have performed in order to make my future self the happy, successful person that I desire to be.

By making room today for the most authentic thoughts, behaviors, and practices within our lives, we achieve with focus and intention in the future. We are the consummate sum of our decisions and actions within our lives, so we must act consciously to sculpt ourselves in the way that we see fit, while we have the opportunity. As we begin to weed our gardens and seed our plots, our intentionality will come to bear. All actions, decisions, and thoughts will pile up like snowfall over time. As we grow and continue to make decisions and perform actions within our lives, we become buried by the weight of our previous predilections. We should then be buried in the weight of joyous, mindful, and thoughtful actions and decisions, rather than be consumed by the burden of negative, unconscious, and mindless behavior.
