Ownership
What is true ownership of our actions? When we begin to make space for actions and decisions that are authentic, intentional, and impactful within our lives, the choices that are most beneficial to our growth become quite clear. The decisions that are detrimental to our growth will also become apparent, and as we begin to recognize them, we can start not only building on our wins, but also learning and growing from our mistakes. It is important to wear the lens of experience and memory as we progress, being mindful that we avoid the lens of regret and forgetfulness. We all occasionally crave that midnight slice of pizza, it is only with experience that we understand the merits and detriments of eating it. This is certainly not to say that I don't occasionally indulge that experience, or recommend that others follow a strict monk-like diet for success. Midnight Pizza is fucking delicious, I regret nothing.
As we begin to make authentic decisions for the life that we desire, we often begin to manifest the results that we desire. These decisions can basically take the form of any action or subsequent inaction, as we go about the world doing whatever it is that aligns with our truest intentions and goals. What many people dont realize is that within the scope of morality and law we can basically do whatever we please. I strongly believe that this is one of the core misunderstandings faced within our lives, that we are bound to act and react within a specific spectrum. What is true within my own perspective of the the world is that it’s simply a matter of accepting the consequences for our actions that must be adhered to in order to embody this perspective. When directing your life on the most authentic path, ownership of your actions and inactions is a key tenet in becoming successful.
Now, with that said, knowing that we are absolutely entitled to pursue joyful, impactful lives for ourselves regardless of what our action or inaction looks like, we must also carry with us the knowledge that there is no “doing your own thing.” Each action has an equal and opposite reaction, which means that although you may be making decisions that you see as most beneficial and impactful within your situation, the consequence is that there is an effect of reverberation within the world. Unexpected reactions can often be brought about once you start living this way, because independence of choice is powerful, and as we’ve stated before, the reaction to your choice may not be immediately seen. We must remain aware of the potential rippling effects of our authentic action and be prepared to face the consequence of our choices with the same conviction that we made those decisions with. We must own the results of our choices just as vehemently as we own the choices themselves.
